I work well with… February 28, 2008

Filed under: collaboration — hargraves @ 4:40 pm

From the choices below, select four classmates (all will have code names) with whom you feel you could work well in a group setting.

Write up your selections, complete with reasons defending and explaining your choices, and submit them as a response to this post.

  • My name is Bright Phoenix.  I am a nineteen year old student that is trying to obtain a career in the medical field in the next couple of years. I live in Johnston County with my parents, younger sister and small dog. My favorite color is pink and I enjoy going to the beach during the summer, riding the boat/jet ski, and lying out at the pool. I like to hang out with my friends and boyfriend on the weekends and have fun. I am a very honest and outgoing person who is always willing to listen to others and I also enjoy meeting new people.

  • I am Decisive Hope. I am from the other side of Goldsboro. I enjoy dancing and just having fun with friends and family. My favorite color is blue, I have a blue Honda. I love to talk. I think that I am very outgoing, kind, sweet, and a little crazy. I love clothes and to dress. I have my girly girl days and sometimes my gangster dress down days. I enjoy being around different people and meeting different people. I enjoy Bojangles, and a cheese and bacon baked potato from Wendy’s. I have a huge family. We are all very close and all grin all the time for no apparent reason. It’s just me and my mom, and we are more like sisters. I like it just being me and her and besides my family and boyfriend, she is all I got.
  • My name is Bright Jewel.  I graduated from GHS in 07; I was born in New York on April 30th . I am going to school to work with children (none of my own). I plan to finish up school here and move back towards to the north to do another two years in school. I like to be with my friends and go out. I like to meet new people so I’m always looking for the opportunity to talk with someone.  The one thing that I hate the most is people who lie. I have a newborn God daughter named Ja’Niyah (she’s my heart). I love to go and see her on the weekends, when I can.

  • My name is Big Bat.  I have been living in North Carolina for the past six years. I have been attending Wayne Community College since last year. Once I graduate from WCC I hope to go on to NC State. I like to do anything outside, skiing and camping are some of my favorite things to do. I work part time a few days a week.

  • My name is Big Sabre.  I am originally from the Dudley area and moved to the country when I was 8. I currently reside in Eureka and go to school for allied health. My favorite hobby is picture making. In my spare time I like to stay home. I work a full time shift and attend school during the day. I have one step son and two cats.  I hope to graduate school very soon and begin work with my new profession. I like to help others and make sure things are done properly and on time. I am never late for anything.

  • My name is Big Stick.  I am a very hard worker.  People depend on me to do difficult tasks because they know I will get it done, and get it done right.  I am very organized and don’t really like people nor things that are sloppy.  I feel that I am a pretty good writer, but I hate to read.  I can’t draw, but I am creative and can do just about anything on the computer.  Even though I am a hard worker and very dependable, I love to have fun.  I like to just chill sometimes, well a lot I guess.  I love to go out with my friends and have a good time just as much as the next person, but when the time comes, I get my stuff done.

  • My name is Quick Grass.  I live in Eastern North Carolina, and enjoy hunting and fishing. I am from Snow Hill and have a younger brother. I like watching NASCAR on Sundays and just taking it easy. During the week I attend school at Wayne Community and work.
  • My name is Intrinsic Wind.  I am from a small town in North Carolina. I have a wonderful, loving family. I graduated from high school as an honor student in 2007, along with lots of wonderful friends. While in high school, I changed my mind several times about “what I want to be when I grow up.” The only two career goals I remember are pharmacy and nursing. I think I have finally made up my mind. I will hopefully obtain an Associates Degree in Accounting at Wayne Community College. Afterwards, I may or may not continue my education at a four-year school. I chose accounting because I am excellent at math and I am an organizer. I like to watch movies, cook (even though I am not that great at it), and go shopping. I am a very friendly person and I like to be in charge. I guess that would make me a leader. For the most part, I feel that people like to be around me. When I meet someone for the first time, I like to make a good impression. I do not like people who are not themselves around others. I also do not like when a person believes that they are better than someone else. On the other hand, I do like people who like to have fun and do not care what other people think about them.

  • I am Pink Phoenix.  I am originally from Goldsboro, NC. I was born and raised there. My immediate family includes my brother who is 24, my mom, and my father. There are also three dogs that are apart of my family, and they are treated as family members. Right now I am pursuing my degree in Human Services/Substance Abuse. I will be graduating from Wayne Community College in spring 2009. Next I will be pursing my bachelor’s degree.  I enjoy fishing, dancing, and watching movies. Also I am interested in my classes at the moment. The classes I enjoy most are my Human Services classes. It is really interesting to me to learn about helping people as well as learning about them in the case that they have something within the DSM IV. I like people that are willing to help others even if it means going out of their way sometimes, as well as I like helping others. Other things I like include the beach, summer time, and spending time with the people I love. One of the people I love is my fiancé Adam, he is everything to me. There is not too much that I dislike. The only things I can think of are people who hurt others, liars, and people who use others.

  • I am Golden Dancer.  I am currently a student at WCC and I am pursuing a career in the Education Field. Eventually I would like to own my own childcare center, but for now I am concentrating on graduating and afterwards I want to go to Mount Olive College to further my education. I was born in New Jersey, and I grew up all over the country, for the most part. I moved to NC when I was 11 and have been here ever since and I graduated from Southern Wayne High. My hobbies would include collecting coins, and porcelain dolls, I have actually collected coins from all over the world including China and Japan. My likes would include shopping and traveling; my dislikes would include flying. My interests are reading, playing on the internet and watching movies.

  • Hello, my name is Distant Justice. I was born in Kinston, North Carolina on January 10, 1989. As a child I loved to play different games such as dress up and hide and go seek. Now I enjoy hanging out with my friends which I love oh so dearly. When we get together it is crazy. We enjoy going out to eat and going to club and having a good time. I don’t have a favorite color so all of the bright colors are my favorite color. I like to help people so I plan on going into the medical field.
  • I am Safe Star.  I like to make jewelry in my free time. I love to read books, any kind of book that sounds interesting to me.  I have seven goats, two of which are newborn twins.  I also have one dog, and some cats. I love country music, and oldies.  I also love to sing.  I was born and raised in North Carolina my whole life.  I went to Grantham Middle School, and then went on to Southern Wayne High.  I have a twin sister, and a fourteen year old brother that is going on twenty.  I also like to draw.
  • My name is Nomad Sabre.  Background info: I am a graduate of Southern Wayne High, Brogden Middle, and graduated with honors from primary school. I have been in a car accident where I t-boned an old lady.  I am currently enrolled at Wayne Community College and I plan to graduate in May. I plan on attending East Carolina to finish out my four year degree in the fall. After that I want to Enroll in the Navy’s nuclear power program.  My main interest is my motorcycle. I like working on but I really love riding it.
  • My name is Shepherd Relief.  I’m from here in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I was born at Wayne Memorial Hospital in 1989. Some of my hobbies include watching sports, playing basketball, baseball, and football. I graduated from high school in 2007. I’ll be here at Wayne Community College for two years. I enjoy fishing, riding dirt bikes, and occasionally hunting–pretty much anything outdoors. I work just about every day, usually six days a week, especially in the summer time. I have three younger siblings, two sisters and a brother.
  • My name is United Flash.  I was born at Wayne Memorial Hospital on February 12, 1989.  I attended Charles B. Aycock High School where I joyfully cheered on the golden Falcons.   I enjoy shopping and spending time with friends and family.  I consider myself very outgoing.  I like to stay busy at all times.  I strive to accomplish goals.  I am planning to become a dental hygienist.  I am currently employed at Dr. Moore’s dental office.  I am a cheerleading coach for the Goldsboro Wildcats.  I love science and dislike English.  My favorite foods consist of sushi, chicken, and ice cream.  I enjoy cooking meals for friends and family.  I learn best by visuals.  I also enjoy doing group work in class.
  • My name is United Dancer.  Background information: Graduate of Rosewood High school 2006, Goldsboro N.C. I have accomplished three traffic violations.  Master in the wrestling arts, was captain of high school wrestling team and hold several records. Current Pursuits and Career Goals: To graduate from Wayne Community College this spring.  Obtain a job at a reputable company with good benefits and end world hunger.  Hobbies and Interests: Playing guitar, listening to music, tinkering with things, watching South Park and the Colbert report, and hanging out with my dog Shep.
  • My Secret Agent Code Name is Noble Promise. I was born in Brooklyn, New York. After getting married, I moved to North Carolina in 1992. I decided to go to college and get a degree in accounting. I have been attending Wayne Community College for a year, and recently changed my major to a double major in Accounting/Business Administration. I love to read romance novels and I also like short stories. I dislike gardening and will avoid it at all costs. Until I moved to North Carolina, I could not tell the difference between a weed and a flower; and fifteen years later, I still pull out half of my plants every spring.
  • My name is Red Sword. I am originally from Dallas, TX. I am a happily divorced mother of two. My kids are my pride and joy and the source of my strength. We moved to Goldsboro nine years ago and it has been hard for me to leave every since. I am slowly evolving into a small town person. I have attended WCC for the past two years pursuing an associate degree in Medical Office Administration and will graduate spring 2008. Afterwards, I will continue my education until I obtain my master’s in Business Administration. During what little spare time I do have, I love reading, cross-stitching, listening to good music, and swimming. But lately I’ve spent a lot of time playing video games. I like good food, good wine, and good company. I dislike arrogant and dishonest people.
  • I am going to college after being out of school for years.  I have seen a lot of the world.  I am working on a double major for my career goal.  I hope to get a job in my career field to support me and my daughter. I enjoy biking and exercising.  To me being fit is a good asset to life, and to  what life has to offer.  I don’t like writing that much due to my spelling problem, but it’s something I am slowly overcoming every day.  I am a nice person, and easy to work with in any situation.  My secret Agent Code Name is:  Infinite Haven

    • Nomad Fox says: “I was born in the mid-west, but raised everywhere,” is what I always say when asked where am I from. I have seen many different countries and lived in many different states. My father as well as my brother served our country in so called, conflicts. I am a mother of two wonderful, sometimes crazy boys that make attending school a family affair. I returned to school to pursue a degree in accounting and eventually work for myself.
    • I am Determined Switch from Raleigh NC.  I moved to Goldsboro NC when I was twelve. Being in a group with partners has its ups and downs. I feel that one of my weaknesses is calling my partners to tell them about my part of the project.  Also, I like being the leader of the group and sometimes do not give people a chance to express their opinion.  The excitement of the project gets my blood pumping for adventuress ideas.  Working with others has never been a problem, I can get along with everyone.  Compromising has never been a problem for me.  That is very important in partnership it makes things flow a lot easier.  Working around people schedule is showing care for your partner or partners.

Collaboration Activity for Friday, February 29 February 28, 2008

It’s Leap Day today, so we should have at least a little fun with Chapter 5.  Here’s your assignment:

    PART I

    1. Visit this website to obtain your Secret Agent Code Name.  http://www.ubique.ch/codename/.  Show me your code name, but do not show or tell anyone else.
    2. Write a personal profile that includes some of your background information, current pursuits, and career goals. In addition, include two paragraphs of personal information. Include hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes, and any other items that others would need in order to get a full and accurate impression of you.
    3. After you have written this profile, write a single paragraph ‘press bio’ such as might be included for a speaking engagement or on a consulting brochure. Submit the profile and bio to me electronically (on flash drive or via email).  Make sure you include your secret agent code name with this assignment.
    4.  (I will then assemble all the profiles and redistribute them in collected form to the class, on the blog.)  From this composite list on the blog (look for the post entitled “I work well with…”), select four classmates with whom you feel you could work well in a group setting.
    5. Write up your selections, complete with reasons defending and explaining your choices, and submit them as a response to the “I work well with…” post on the blog (above).

    PART II

Write a detailed self-assessment of your strengths and weaknesses as a “team player.” How well do you work with others? To what degree do you cooperate? Compromise? Account for the interests and concerns of others? Are you more of a leader or a follower? Use the Sample Form for Evaluating Team Members (page 101) on yourself as a starting point.  Submit your self-assessment to me (please give me a paper copy).
