Today students completed their classmate introduction interviews, taking notes during the process.  They then wrote a draft of a memo introducing their partner to the class.  I thought we would cover much more material today, but time goes by so quickly!

Next time, we’ll complete the Chapter 1 quiz (which we did not complete today, as originally planned).  We will also edit the memos and present them to the class.

January 7, First Day of Class! January 7, 2008

Today was our first day of class, and it looks like we are off to a good start!  I was particularly thrilled to learn that we have twenty-three computers in our classroom.  I was also happy to see that most of you arrived on time and seemed enthusiastic about the course.

We discussed the syllabus and some of the major tasks we’ll be completing as a part of the course.  Students completed a brief survey and then learned about our first assignment–the classmate introduction memo.

Next time in class, Wednesday, you will work with a partner to complete the classmate introduction memo.  Hopefully, you all will have obtained an email address by then as well as your textbooks and flash drives.  We will work on our interviews and memos in class and then move to two-minute oral presentations.

For next time, please also complete a reading af Chapter 1 in your textbook.  There will be a quiz.

See you Wednesday!

Welcome to your English class blog! January 3, 2008

I have been running a class blog for my high school students for a few months now, but this is my first time running a college class blog.  I’m still relatively new at this, but hopefully this blog will be a helpful resource for you outside class!

Here, I’ll post due dates, handouts, reminders, and PowerPoint presentations covered in class.  We’ll also use the site periodically for extended class discussion.

Good luck to all of you this semester!  I hope you enjoy the course.
